James was still a bit annoyed about last night. He had finally finished everything and come to get Jessica only to be turned away. He was not sure what had been going on, but the guards would not even check with her to see if she would let him come in. He dressed in his best, and decided to try again. The new suit felt odd to him but he wanted to make the right impression. He walked up, laughing softly when the guards moved out of his way. Jessica should be waking up about now. He knocked softly and waited for her to answer the door.

She figured it was her donor coming in for her nightly feeding so she called out to come in. She was finishing getting dressed and slid the new pair of panties she hadn't worn yet on. Fixing her bra right, she looked down, satisfied. She pulled her jeans on and turned towards the door, looking down as she buttoned her pants. "Hey, I'm not all that hungry yet...so maybe we ca--" She looked up and swallowed, seeing James standing there with a suit. She blinked a few times and stared like he had walked in naked or something.

    Sweet Jesus in a manger...

"J-James..I...uh...hi." She wasn't expecting him. He wasn't there when she woke and assumed he was out doing his own thing like usual. She cleared her throat and ran her hands over her cheeks, making sure they really weren't as hot as they seemed to be. She grabbed her blouse and pulled it on, grinning slightly as she tried to tell herself to behave. She wasn't hungry before...but she could sure eat now.

"The guards wouldn't let me in to see you last night so I thought you might need your space. I slept in one of the guest rooms. I have something planned for tonight though and was hoping they would at least let me tell you about it before they sent me away again."

"Oh...about that. Well, I just...well I was really tired." She nodded, lying. She hated lying to him but he would probably flip out on her for risking her well being. "I just wanted to be left alone and sleep. Sorry about that. It wasn't anything against you." She walked closer to him and looked at his tie, trailing her gaze back up to his eyes. Placing her index finger on the knot of his tie, she bit her bottom lip. "Suits...there's just something about 'em." She smiled.

"I am just glad I was able to find a tailor that will work at night. Suits that fit are not easy to find."

He reached up and adjusted the tie.

"Still not used to wearing them, but this is a special occasion. I'd like you to get dressed, Jessica. Tonight is going to be full of surprises."

She smiled and didn't speak for a few moments then realized he was talking to her. "I'm sorry I..." she laughed and looked down at her clothes. "I thought I was dressed..." She looked back up and then thought for a moment. "Oh you mean...like dressed...dressed up? What kind of occasion is this? Are we going on a date? Oooo does Bill know? Am I allowed to leave?" She quizzed him and realized she was rambling because of her excitement.

"It is time for you to see what I have been working on. You have to have been curious."

He walked over and sat down while she decided what to wear.

She smiled bigger and was really curious to see what he had been working on, taking so much time he would leave every night and run off to where ever it was he ran to. She turned and headed for her closet, excited she got to dress up too. Sliding the hangers across the bar, she tapped her chin. There were tons of clothes that she had purchased from that shop in Shreveport that she still hadn't worn. Oh right! The green dress that she had gotten and never wore. It went well with her red hair. She grabbed the clothing bag from her closet and turned to smile at him, disappearing into the bathroom to get ready. She unpinned her hair and let it fall around her shoulders, then rolled the sides and pinned it like she used to when she had met Hoyt. Quickly taking her jeans and blouse off, she slid into her dress and her eyes widened at how good her cleavage looked in it. Well, he was in a suit after all. The fabric was silky and smooth, she loved how it felt against her skin. Tying the halter top behind her neck, she let her hair fall back down and covered it. Checking all angles, she came back out and smiled, palming the front of the dress and looking down. "Is this too much?"

He stepped close, kissing her cheek.

"You look incredible, Jessica. Shall we go?"

He held out his arm for her, smiling broadly.

She smiled and looked down a moment, feeling as if her cheeks would heat up if they could. She nodded and slid her hand to the crook of his elbow and looked up at him. "I feel like Pretty Woman...well, except for not being a prostitute." She realized what she said after and closed her eyes, silently chastising herself. She'd been cooped up too long with TV.

He laughed softly and patted her hand as they walked down the hall. He led her toward the back of the house and out the rear doors quietly. They turned slightly and headed out toward the back of the estate.

"You've given me so much, I wanted to give something back, so I talked with William about a project. That is what I have been working on all this time."

As they strolled down the path, he remained silent on what his surprise was until it came into view.

She looked at him and smiled as he led her to the back of the estate and out the doors. Where they leaving? Had he built them a house or something in the backyard? She didn't ask even though she wanted to. Instead, she looked around as they walked. There was a path made of cement squares and she followed them with him as he spoke, looking to the side at him and smiling like a fool. She was excited to see what he had done. When he stopped walking, she looked where he had looked and gasped. Bringing both hands to her mouth, she just stared at the sight before her. There were lights, a garden, a small swing, a place where you could make a fire. It was...the most beautiful thing she had ever seen and he had built everything...with his own hands. He had done this with his own time.

"James...." She whispered his name and felt like she was going to cry from the excitement and surprise. "James it's...it's...Oh my God James!" She couldn't speak...it was just too perfect. She loved it, adored it...this was their haven, their spot...nothing but serenity here, she could feel it.

He led her over, lowering her into the swing and smiled.

"I ran into some old friends when I was working on this project. We have been planning one more surprise for you."

He let go of her hand and walked just out of the light. When he brought the lights up, she could see a few humans and vampires...all with instruments. James stood at the center of a small stage at a microphone. He winked at her as the music began.

She lowered herself into the swing and smiled up at him, watching as he began to walk away. Soon he reappeared with a guitar and a few other people. Some humans, some vampire. They began to play and music filled her ears. She squealed softly and her cheeks hurt from smiling so big. Listening, she heard him sing for the first time and her heart melted.

If I fell in love with you
Would you promise to be true
    And help me understand
Cos I've been in love before
And I found that love was more
    Than just holding hands

She smiled and looked down for a few seconds, her heart just growing in love for him as he sang to her.

If I give my heart to you
    I must be sure
    From the very start
That you would love me more than her

She knew she loved him more than any other woman ever loved him...and she was determined to show him and prove to him how much she did. She wanted to shout it, sing it, make him feel it...

If I trust in you oh please
    Don't run and hide
If I love you too oh please
Don't hurt my pride like her
Cos I couldn't stand the pain
And I would be sad if our new love was in vain

She covered her mouth with both hands to contain her excitement and her smile, watching him as he sang to her and played the guitar. His voice was smooth, like silk. She swung a bit in the swing to the beat.

So I hope you see that I
    Would love to love you
    And that she will cry
When she learns we are two
Cos I couldn't stand the pain
And I would be sad if our new love was in vain

She listened to the whole song and clapped when he finished, her smile never breaking and seemingly only growing, causing her face to hurt. She could barely see she was smiling so much. She stood from the swing and walked over to him, placing one hand on his cheek and the other on his shoulder, she leaned closer and kissed him. Her tongue swept into his mouth briefly, teasing him and her lips lingered on his. She could hear his friends whispers and claps, smiling against his lips as she pulled back. Nodding she continued to smile. "I do...I love you and I'll love you more than her. I'll show you everyday I love you, I won't run or hide from you..." She giggled. "I love you James."

He smiled, looking in her eyes as he leaned in to kiss her again.

"..and I love you, Jessica. Go back and sit down. We're not done yet."

He waited for her to climb back in the swing before motioning to the others.

"You and I are good at writing letters, so this seemed like a good song for me to sing..."

She smiled and nodded, walking back over to her swing seat. She swayed in the swing as she listened to him sing the next song. It was fascinating how they all harmonized and their voices blended together. She watched them play their instruments and her eyes found James again, smiling big as she slowly swung in the swing. The lights making his eyes twinkle and his voice...oh his voice. He was really really good! Better than good, he should be a singer. She giggled as they all did little movements and performed the song, eyes always drifting back to him. He had captured her heart...God please don't let him break it. And vice versa.

As they wrapped up the song, he smiled and waved to the band. He watched as they piled into the jeep behind the stage and drove back toward the gates. He climbed into the swing with her, sliding close.

She looked at him and smiled, nodding her head and reaching for his hand. Linking her fingers with his, she looked back up at him and leaned her head on his shoulder. "It was...perfect. No one has ever sang to me like that....or built me a garden." She giggled. "The thought and time you put into this....I just....I really don't know how to thank you or what to say. I just love it. "Jessica. That is the point. You don't have to say anything. That is the beauty of a garden. It is just happy that you visit it once in a while. It does not care why. It does not judge. It does not get sad. It is always there for you. Now you have a small piece of the outside world hidden away all for your own enjoyment. This is kind of a pilot project as well. I have something much bigger planned, but that will take a long time to get going."

He leaned in, letting his body roll over hers, trapping her beneath him as he leaned in and kissed her slowly, enjoying every moment of it.

She smiled as he spoke of the garden and looked around at the plants and lights, all of it so very breathtaking. She had never been a plant person before but now...this was just...this was her place now. Somewhere she could come and be alone but not be fully alone...It was perfect, he was perfect. She went to say something when he moved and was on top of her. She smiled and closed her eyes when he kissed her. She loved how he took his time. Her tongue gently gliding along his as her lips connected with his. Her hand came up to run through his hair as she continued to kiss him back. Their kisses were always slow and long, just the way she liked it. She moaned softly as pleasure washed over her from the simple joy of kissing him....but it was far more than just a kiss.

He loved the way their bodies felt against one another. There was no rush, no urgency, simply a completeness. He looked in her eyes when he finally broke the kiss.

"This garden is my gift to you, Jessica. It is a small and simple thing, but I hope it will bring you joy."

He leaned in, kissing her again, this time deeper, letting his hands slide into her hair as he kissed her.

She smiled and slowly opened her eyes when the kiss finally broke. "Small and simple are always better, James." With him, she really didn't need anything else. But this...this was a nice piece of extra special. She ran her fingertips along the curve of his jaw and looked into his eyes. "I'm so lucky...just so lucky." She felt him lean in and kiss her again, her leg came up and wrapped around his waist. He knew just how to make her tick, knew how to make her want him more. The deeper he kissed her, the hotter she got and some part of her wondered if he knew what he did to her.

"I have one more surprise for you."

Rolling from the swing, he pulled her out of it and held her hand as the walked toward a gazebo at the far end of the garden.

She pouted slightly when he moved and stood, pulling her up with him. She looked up at him admiringly as he led her somewhere else. She was still in euphoria land, she barely heard surprise. Until he stopped and pointed and she looked at the dimly lit gazebo hidden off to the side. Looking from him to the gazebo, she smiled bigger and bounced on the balls of her feet. "It's so...perfect. What's inside?" She tugged on his hand, eager to see the inside of it. She was loving this so much, all of it...she just may never leave.

He smiled as they walked up to the gazebo.

    "Looks perfectly average, doesn't it."

He smiled as he led her inside.

"I added a little something I always add. I tend to lose track of time in my gardens, so I make certain precautions."

He pulled on a lamp-hanger and the sound of muffled gears turning could be heard. He pulled her to one side as a section slid open in the floor.
