    ~The Coast of Northern Oregon~

Quinn looked down at the vials in his hand, thinking carefully. He knew he needed to beat his addiction, but he might need his nerves solid for the climb down. He looked over the edge into the caldera of the Devil's Punchbowl. The entrance to the cave would be blocked when the time came in. His hands shook as he uncapped one of the vials, drinking the contents. His hands stopped shaking as he put the other vials back inside his pack and pulled it on. He got a grip on the ledge and threw his body over the edge of the caldera. Damn the tidepool was making his handholds slick, but he could not wait for the tide to go out again. He looked around as he climbed down, watching as odd flickers of color came at the corner of his vision.

As he reached the foot of the caldera and the entrance to the caves, his mind began to spin. He could see, but it was like everything was out of focus. He had waited too long to take the blood, he was loosing himself. He quickly pulled the other vials out and drank them, smashing the glass into the rocks on the far side of the caldera. His mind cleared for a moment and he lowered himself into the water at the entrance of the caves. He waded back until the land sloped back up. Once he was out of the water, he stripped off his wet clothing and carried it with him deeper into the caves. He drew out a bundle of light sticks and began cracking them and throwing them around to illuminate the cave. His mind was swimming again, flashes of color bursting from the sticks as they landed. He explored to make sure there was nothing else living down here and them set his camp.

He pulled out a small rechargeable heater/light and activated it in the center of the main cave. Pulling out his gear he made his camp. There was no turning back now. No more V and no way out until morning. He had traded and bought enough to get him here, but it had taken everything he could do to wait until he arrived to take the reserves. Now he would have no choice but to face his demons. He was just settling down when he heard a low laughter coming from one of the side caves. He looked up to see an impossibility standing there looking back at him.

It was eerie to hear his own voice coming to his ears..
"What's the matter, John? I thought you came to face your demons..."
