    Tattle Tale Empty Tattle Tale

Post by Amy Williams Fri Nov 22, 2013 7:18 pm

    Amy 8 years old

She was sitting in her bedroom, which was really nothing more than a slightly large closet. She didn’t mind, her father was doing the best he could raising her and her 4 other siblings after their fae mother had just dumped them all on his door. Plus having this tiny room gave her plenty of privacy and quiet. She could sit down and read and not be bothered. Case in point she was reading one of her favorite books “The little Prince” under the light of a flashlight. The house should be quiet, it was pretty late, around 10pm already. Her brother was in his room which he shared with their father and her 3 older sisters all shared another room on the second floor. Her tiny closet root was just beneath the stairs which was sort of a pain since if anyone went up and down the stairs too harshly she’d hear it.

As she turned the page she heard the tale tell creaks of the stairs. Who would be up this late? Maybe it was her dad, he was known for grabbing a late night snack here and there. The first creaks were followed by more and more, it sounded like a whole group of people going down the stairs. Amy set down her book and crawled to her door where she put her ear to the space between the door and the floor.

“Hurry up the party already started!”
    “Shut up I’m coming”
    “You got the key?”
“Yeah yeah turn off the alarm real quick”

Amy could hear her sisters bickering by the front door. She sighed. They were sneaking out again. Their dad worked so hard to keep their fae nature under wraps but her sisters insisted that being popular and being around boys was more important. Even Cael their oldest brother couldn’t keep them in check.

“wait wait…hold on, have to check on the brat”

Amy jumped up, turned off her flashlight and hurried into bed. She threw the covers on herself and curled up with a pillow. She took a deep breath to slow down her breathing just a second before one of her older sisters Clotilde opened the door to her room. Amy remained perfectly still, she knew if her sisters thought she was awake they would rough her up to keep her silence. After a few tense moments where she did her best to keep her breathing even Clotilde seemed to buy the act and closed the door.

“Yeah she’s asleep…can’t have her telling dad” she said before her sisters unlocked the front door and dashed into the night.

Amy sighed. She sat up and turned on her flashlight again. She debated whether or not to tell on her sisters. They didn’t treat her very nice, never really shared. Only Cael doted on her like a good big brother should. Telling on her sisters would be good payback on all the mean things they did to her, but on the other hand they were still her sisters. It wasn’t until, between her thinking and just lying in bed that another creak came down the stairs and a soft knock on her door.

She walked up and opened the door and was met with Cael in his pj pants. “They snuck out didn’t they?” he whispered. Amy nodded, she couldn’t lie to Cael. Cael sighed and ran his hands through his hair. As the oldest he felt responsible for everyone.

“I won’t tell dad right now, he’s exhausted from work, but I’ll take the car and go drag them back” he said. Amy nodded. “Be careful ok?” she said. Cael smiled and kissed her forehead. As the eldest and the one who looked like he was 16 and not 9 like she did he could go out and bring her sisters home. Cael went back upstairs to grab a shirt and Amy closed her door. Her sisters would blame this on her despite Cael already having known what they did.
