some gifts

Kiara had just finished another game of chess with King William. It bothered her that he’d become such a nice friend in such a short amount of time. She’d never done anything inappropriate with him and their conversations were always either about business, about world events or about how what bothered him always seemed funny to her.

But deep down she knew why it bothered her. It was because she knew with 100% certainty that if Bill ever found out she was even corresponding with King William he would instantly assume she was being unfaithful and instantly assume she was somehow sleeping with him. The fact that deep down Bill trusted her so little was at the root of what bothered her.

So she found herself in her office again. It was now basically her second bedroom. She hadn’t been sleeping in the master bedroom since the night Bill had dismissed her from his office. He hadn’t even complained about it which told her all she needed to know.  

She was starving right now and tempted to go out of her office to hunt for food. Poor Tia was working overtime with all the new people in the mansion.  Just as she had stood to get to the door a knock came in before Dexter peeked his head.

“Miss Griffen…you have some deliveries” he said and before she could say anything about it he and two servants brought in a mess of balloons and flowers and a tray filled with cupcakes. They quickly left her to the unexpected gifts. She smiled at the flowers and balloons. This had to be Bill’s way of trying to apologize. She closed the door and set the flowers in a vase, leaving the balloons in the corner before opening the box of cupcakes. She picked one up and chuckled. They were red velvet cupcakes with cream cheese frosting.


She appreciated the gesture but she would take spending time with Bill over any gifts any day but she’d appreciate whatever he thought of. At least it meant she wasn’t totally forgotten.
