    Deteriorating City Empty Deteriorating City

    {He sighed as he walked into the house. It was barely pass 1pm and the heat was already sweltering. He took off his boots right at the entrance, not wanting to dirty up Sookie’s clean floors. He peeled off his sweaty socks, his sweaty shirt and tossed them into the washing machine near the back. At least Sookie had house trained him a bit to be a bit cleaner than usual. Shirtless and in jeans he made his way barefoot to the kitchen and opened the fridge. There was a pitcher of lemonade Sook had mentioned would be part of dinner, an ice box pie he was half tempted to eat, some other things and then he saw it. Near the back were the two ice cold 6 packs of beer he’d bought. He grinned, reaching for a bottle and closing the fridge. He twisted off the cap as he looked around. The clock ticked in the background and so did those loud bugs that only seemed to make the temperature rise more.

    He made his way to the den where he turned on not only the ceiling fan but also the AC and leaned back on the couch. He took several swigs of the ice cold beer and groaned, just trying to cool off after a day of miserable failure.

    Despite getting a nice and surprisingly lucrative contract to remodel a school’s library and build a new church near Baton Rouge getting the permits and things he needed had proved to be much more of a pain. It was like everything had aligned today to fuck him over big time. First he busted not only a tire but the axel on his truck driving over a pothole filled road on his way to City Hall. Then once he actually got to City Hall he had to hunt down people to help him. The lady who worked at the records office where they kept the building plans for the library looked to be 200 years old and slower than a turtle walking in molasses. Then once he actually got the plans he needed which had taken about an hour longer than it should have because as he learned the hard way City Hall still had actual paper records. They hadn’t moved anything to computers yet. But afterwards he headed down the hall to get the permit for the new church and there was no one there. Literally. All he found was one girl who had clearly gotten the job due to her breasts chewing gum and texting on her phone. She had been of no help and eventually he’d left without the permit.

    Then he had to go buy himself a new tire for his truck and get the axel re-straightened. All while watching from across the body shop two supposed parish officers trying to get a beaten up old cop car to start. He hadn’t seen a car like that outside of classic car magazines, and it surely didn’t look even half as nice as the ugliest classic car.

    All in all, a day that had started at 7 am ended at 1pm with hardly any work done, a busted truck he’d have to pick up later a project that was now delayed until he got permits and…

    “Son of a bitch!” he said as the AC and ceiling fan stopped as the power had gone out…again. The last time had been because of a bad breaker but this was getting ridiculous. Forget the fangers going to shit because of the bombing of the true blood factories. This town was going to hell in a hole filled hand basket if the fucking Mayor didn’t do something about it.}
