He sat at the bar after closing and poured himself another shot of tequila straight. The only sounds were that of the jukebox playing sad sappy country songs, the ones that drove you to drink. It had been about a week since Nicole decided to go back home to see her mom. It wasn't permanent but he knew there was nothing that ensured his return. He lifted the shot glass and swirled it a bit before tipping it back and downing the alcohol. The burn warmed his chest and he hissed. Pouring another, he sighed and rubbed at his forehead.
Would this be him forever? Alone? He missed her and thought about how she and the baby were. Maybe they could have been happy, together...maybe they could have made a great life together. But he let her walk out the door and maybe now he'd never forgive himself for it. Would he always live with this regret?
