    Morning.... Empty Morning....

Post by Kiara Griffen Fri Mar 28, 2014 4:44 pm

“Mommy Mommy wake up!” said Sophie in her over-enthused voice, bouncing on the bed. Kiara groaned. She’d spent all night looking for houses in the area. Currently she and Sophie were renting a nice secluded cottage. It was well before tourist season so renting the cottage indefinitely hadn’t bothered the owner. Plus it was better than staying at a hotel.

“nnn…Sophie baby….” Said Kiara in a tired voice. She managed to open one eye to take a peek at the clock. It was 7am sharp and WAY too early to be awake but her daughter was ever the perky girl.

“Mommy wake up!” she said again. Her vocabulary still expanding, ‘wake up’ was her new favorite phrase. She sat up as Sophie hugged her midsection. Kiara couldn’t help but smile as she ran her fingers through Sophie’s still messy hair. It looked like Sophie had woken up and come directly to wake Kiara up as the child was still in her pajamas.

“I’m awake baby girl. Go wash up and pick out your clothes and I’ll make you breakfast” she said as she urged Sophie to get off the bed. Sophie giggled and ran off, her steps making a pitter-patter sound on the wooden floor. It was only then that Kiara yawned. She wished she could sleep more but being a mother was a 24/7 job. She got up and put on some loose pants and a clean shirt before heading over to Sophie’s room. Sophie had laid out a cute outfit for the day which she helped Sophie put on.

“Ok baby, make your bed and pick up your toys” she said as she kissed Sophie’s forehead. She wanted to instill some discipline on Sophie even as young as she was. Hopefully it would make for an easier to handle child. While Sophie picked up her room Kiara went to the small kitchen. She began to cut up some fruit while the frying pan got hot. Sophie was a fan of breakfast sausages, mostly because she could pick them up with her hands and dip them in syrup so that’s what Kiara would cook. She set up a bowl of cut watermelon, mandarin oranges and ripe cantaloupe on the counter as she began to fry up the breakfast sausage. She poured apple juice in Sophie’s sippy cup and had that ready for when Sophie showed up.

That tell-tale excited pitter patter signified Sophie coming to the kitchen. Kiara handed Sophie her signature purple sippy cup which she took with a giggle and began to drink from. She had to maneuver carefully as she climbed up on one of the stools to get to the counter. Kiara handed Sophie the bowl of fruit and a kid safe fork. Sophie dug into the fruit while Kiara put the cooked sausage on another plate. Using the fat from the sausage she began to fry eggs while putting some maple syrup in a small bowl.

Today would be another long day of looking for houses to live in. Having to find a home that still gave them some privacy but was close enough to a good school and in a good neighborhood was proving tough, but she knew it would all be worth it.

As she handed Sophie a plate with warm sausages and syrup and watched her eagerly and almost too happily devour them she nodded to herself. Yes, all the days of searching for a home and being particular about every detail would be worth it to know she was preserving that beautiful smile on her child’s face.
