Mother knows best? Empty Mother knows best?

Amy smiled as she brought over another set of beer pitchers to the truck drivers. They all smiled and one of them handed her a $20. “Keep the change Amy” he said. She smiled, putting it in her pocket. “Thanks Carl” she said before heading back to the kitchen. The diner was busy as usual. Mike was slinging orders in the kitchen. As she went to make yet another pot of coffee the little bell rang on the door.

“Welcome” she said, turning around with a cheery smile that faded instantly, swallowed up by the pit where her stomach fell.

    Mother knows best? Suuauc

In walked a very pregnant woman followed by a nice looking middle aged man. She didn’t know the man, but the woman was very familiar to her. It was her biological mother. Pure fae she was pretty much a breeding machine. It was like dejavu. She could see her father, struggling to care for her and her other four siblings, then how her mother showed up on the eve of her 10th birthday and stole them all away, taking them back to summerland. Hatred began to bubble up inside her but instead she plastered her best nice smile and walked up to them.

“Afternoon, is there anything I can get you?” she asked. The man smiled, asking for a cup of coffee however her mother gave her a sinister smirk. “May I have some salt?” she asked. Amy quirked a brow. Oh HELL no. This woman was not going to induce her birth in the dinner. The poor man probably had no idea of what he was getting into. Amy merely wrote down the order for coffee. The man looked at the woman “Salt sweetie? Why salt?” he asked. Amy quickly interjected. “Perhaps she’s just sodium deficient. We get women who always order the pickle and pb sandwich. That should help” she said, keeping a satisfied smirk inside. The man seemed grateful. “Why not get that instead? You can’t eat just raw salt” he said. Her mother gave her a look, but she seemed to have learned enough not to argue about it. Amy grinned and walked off. She brought back a cup of coffee and a pickle and pb sandwich. Mike had been taken aback, but far be it he to argue with a pregnant lady.

“Um excuse me Amy was it? Could you help me to my car? I left something” she said. The man looked worried, but allowed Amy to escort his wife outside. Once beside the dinner, away from patrons she growled.

“You bitch! You’re planning to birth your children here and leave that poor man to care for them” she said. The woman grinned. “Of course I do. I have to work extra hard since you won’t do your duty to bring more blood to the fae clan” she said as if this was her fault.

“I’m not a breeding machine mother she said, with enough venom in the last word. All these men actually loved and cared for you, and you go and use them for your own gain. No wonder no fae would lay with you. They’d get frostbite just being in the same room.” She said.

The woman went to slap Amy but Amy caught her hand. “You will RESPECT your mother!” she screamed. Amy lowered a glare. “I have no mother. You were just an egg donor. My father raised me right and it’s why none of us remained in summerland!” she yelled. Her mother took a step back. “You were all failures!” she screamed. Amy flung her mother’s wrist down. “No mother. We just learned not to be like you” she said.

Her mother opened her mouth about to say something before she paused and grinned. “Ohh… theres a boy in your heart…" she said. Amy didn’t let her face betray anything. “Maybe I’ll pay him a visit.. tell him what his precious friend REALLY is” she said. Oh Amy wasn’t going to let THAT happen. Her mother smirked, feeling like she’d won this round. “You’ll see Amy, you’re a fairy, and you WILL fulfill your duty” she said before she walked back into the dinner.
