An unexpected twist

The flight was still long. The plane had landed in New York to refuel and it still had another 7 hours to go with delays and everything. During the fuel stop, where night had turned to day the staff had done their best to clean up the mess Kiara had made. Kiara, miraculously still awake, but fading fast had remained on a chair as the staff cleaned the bedroom and bathroom as quickly as possible as Kiara’s pissed off look was unnerving them all.

Finally the room was back to its lavish look and Kiara managed to pass out in bed just as the sun peeked through the clouds. The plane took off and the journey continued. It was several hours later in another airport for another fuel stop that things got interesting.

The female flight attendants eyed the sleeping Max with lust but they didn’t dare do anything. However after several silent minutes one of them let out a loud, high pitched scream. There was a large, black wolf prowling the cabin where Max was. The flight attendants all rushed to the front, wanting to leave the plane but they couldn’t as the door was now closed and the plane had begun its taxi down the runway.

The wolf jumped up to where Max slept. It growled and sniffed along his sleeping form, getting close to his face. The wolf’s eyes were bright orange and its muscles were tensed up as if ready to fight. It’s hot breath fell on Max’s perfect vampire features, its nose almost touching his cheek.

Max had not seen Kiara since mid flight over the Atlantic since leaving Belfast after their argument. He just needed to be alone whilst Kiara got over her issues. No matter what approach he tried he was getting no where with her. There was nothing much more that he could do. Once they landed in Washington he planned to head on to Georgia, there was a few old friends that still resided there that he would look up.

He had taken his day rest earlier than usual knowing that he had a lot of planning to do. His eye lids fluttered when he felt a weight shift on the bed in a private cabin that he was using on the plane. His eyes shot open as a wolf stared down at him. Out of pure instinct his first action was to get himself to safety. Using his arms and all his strength he pushed the wolf away from him freeing himself as he sped to his feet with his arms in a defensive mode and fangs dropped hissing.

The wolf turned, following Max with its bright eyes. It took a step, then two on the bed as if to go after him before it paused.

It began to twitch like a seizure, growling and whimpering. Slowly and grotesquely it began to change back into a human. First the long paws stretched, the fur receded, the muzzle shrunk and the ears receded back into the head. The sickening sound of breaking bones and twisted joints filled the cabin.

Soon the wolf was a woman and that woman was Kiara. She was bruised, more purple than her normal skin color. She was panting, breathing even though she didn't need it. She shook like a leaf, and as she lifted her head, her eyes were wide with sheer fear and panic.

"H-help....p-p-please" she whimpered, her voice shaking as if on the verge of sobs. Blood slowly began to drip down from her nose and her ears; the normal bleeds any young vampire would get being awake during the day.

She tried to wrap her arms around her bare chest but none of her limbs seemed to respond. Like a limp rag doll she fell off the bed, still shaking, still looking like she'd seen something terrifying.

Max did not know what the hell was happening. It was like a scene from a horror movie, one that was happening before his very eyes. His body on instinct was ready in a defensive mode, his natural instinct when it came to wolves or those who wished him harm. He had never seen anything like this before in his life, a vampire whom could become a wolf also. He had heard rumours but never believed them to be true. As the wolf shifted in front of him as Kiara now lay heaped on the floor begging for help, he was stunned, frozen for a moment.

Speeding over to her side as he gathered her weak and lifeless body into his arms as her head rested on his upper thigh.

"Kiara!....What do you want me to do!" he spoke pained, his voice high and rasped.

She moaned in pain when he lifted her. Everything hurt, even just being awake. She barely managed to lift her head, looking up at Max with a very pitiful expression.

"d-d-drain me... p-please..." she whimpered. She felt like electricity was coursing through her veins. It threatened her very sanity and she only assumed that if he drained her to weakness she'd stop feeling so charged.

Max heard her plea and took a few seconds to process it all before he truly understood what she had asked him to do.

"...Kiara.....I can't...." he whimpered painfully.

Max had never seen her like this before and even without fresh vampire blood in her system, this was something entirely new.

".....It will make you weak" he whimpered

She coughed but nodded "you must.... or I'll turn again...."

She closed her eyes, letting her head droop on his chest "it...hurts....Max. I....I don't want to hurt"

Max could hear her plea's once again and as much as he knew that draining her could bring her to the brink of death. Max could not just sit here and let her remain in excruciating pain, dropping his fangs into place;

".....This....This won't hurt" he promised Kiara.

Max lowered his head and his hands onto her shoulder as he allowed his fangs to pierce her flesh as her blood flowed into his mouth.

Her blood was like blood on steroids. Not like a fae but potent just as well. It didn't taste like vampire blood nor did it taste like wolf's blood. The taste was more heady, sweeter yet powerful and oddly enough life still clung to it so it could still theoretically nourish a vampire.

She groaned. With every pull of his mouth she became weaker and therefore more stable. She felt less and less charged like before.

Max allowed her blood to flow freely into his mouth wave after wave. He had to stop several times as her blood tasted different than regular vampire blood. He had never tasted anything like it before, his fangs bit down a little deeper into her flesh to allow more of her blood to flow free. His hand gently stroked her hair to keep her calm whilst he did what she asked of him.

She shuddered. Her hand feebly reached up and touched his cheek. "I....am sorry... f-for all the trouble....I've caused you...." She murmured.

She was fading, feeling tiered but centered.

Max could feel the flow of Kiara's blood begin to fall into a steady trickle dribbling down his throat. Her faint voice barely a croaked whisper, it took Max several moments to break the connection that his fangs had made with her shoulder. Tilting his head back as her last remaining blood slid down his chin. He gazed down softly at her, his mind fuelled by the sweet intoxication blood that circled through his veins "...Never be sorry....." he spoke huskily.

She managed a smile but soon she was unconscious in his arms. The daylight and the lack of blood had her out cold.

The plane was on its last fuel stop before reaching Washington. It was raining heavily outside so the pilot was waiting for a clear spot to take off. The sound of the rain and the cooling darkness of the cabin made her feel oddly comfortable.

She groaned, feeling something heavy on top of her chest. Despite it being an hour of so before sundown she began to twitch. She felt drowsy and very very weak. She finally realized that what was heavy on top of her was a combination of a very warm blanket and an arm that was attached to Max.

She was curled up almost totally under the blanket, finding it strange that Max had decide to keep her close, or perhaps he'd just been too tired to move her. She closed her eyes again, vaguely feeling the plane jerk to life as it seemed to be ready to take off.

She figured eventually Max would wake, feed off some flight attendant and perhaps relegate her back to the bedroom until she was left back in Washington.

"...Kiara!...Wake up!.....Keep your eyes open!......Kiara!" Max bellowed watching a lifeless Kiara slump in his arms.

Max needed to get her somewhere safe from the sun and somewhere that they both could seek shelter until they reached the last refuel stop before heading to their final stop - Washington. Gathering Kiara into his arms he carried her through to his private cabin that he was using. Gently placing her on the bed he gathered a thick blanket and draped it over her.

Even though the windows on the jet would keep the sunlight out they still needed to seek shelter. Max needed to be close to her because as soon as she woke up she would need blood and he was more than willing to give it to her. Sliding onto the bed as he got comfortable Max closed his eyes and let himself drift off.


His body jerked as his eyes fluttered open hearing the plane's engines roar and that bump at the end as it took off from the landing strip. Max craned his head to see that Kiara was more or less awake, his arm draped over her. Max could not remember doing that when he was awake, it must have been something that he had done whilst he rested.

The movement of the plane was oddly soothing, like someone rocking her. She still felt very weak but she didn't feel the odd charge from the previous day that had signal her involuntary change into a wolf. She sort of wiggled under the blanket, surprised at how warm it was despite her cool body temperature.

She felt Max jerk behind her but she ignored it. She wasn't expecting any more of him, not after all the issues she'd caused with her weird new physiology. She did however have the pressing matter of needing to feed. She made a mental note to have some extensive testing done on herself to find any other source of nourishment other than vampire blood.

Max groaned feeling Kiara shift in bed. He slowly unravelled his arm that was still on her. He had never drained a vampire before so it was a first for him. He shifted and sat up in the bed trying not to move Kiara.

".....How are you feeling?" he whispered quietly to her.

Max had never shared a bed with anyone, but he felt entirely calm and at ease with it all.

She groaned, slowly reaching up and rubbing her eyes, the top of her head barely peeking out from under the covers.

"nnn.... tired still.....and hungry.... and in need of a shower" she said, her voice muffled from being under the covers.

She slowly pulled the covers down, letting her face be shown. Aside from tired which she did look, she looked perfectly normal.

Max sat himself up straight and began rolling up his sleeve to his elbow exposing his wrist.

"You should feed, it should make you feel better....Then if you want you can use the en-suite in this room. The shower in this cabin is to die for, well not literally" he ended with a chuckle.

She looked at him, unsure if she should really feed from him. It seemed every time she did she got in trouble, but she knew also that she needed her strength. She couldn't stay in bed all night.

"ok..." she said, slowly managing to sit up, ignoring the fact she was quite naked beneath the covers. Her fangs dropped and she bit into his wrist. The bite was weak, but it let through enough blood for her to take a few good swallows.

Max had to fight to keep his fangs from dropping. Blood sharing with another vampire was something quite personal to Max but he knew that it was different for Kiara because she needed his blood and nothing else. He could feel her fangs penetrate his wrist as he let out a grunt at the sensation. Max pushed all thoughts to the back of his mind, soon they would be landing in Washington and she would be on her way.

She only took a few small pulls of blood, enough to not feel so tired before she pulled her mouth away and wiped her mouth. She seemed a bit more alert.

"Thank you" she said, slowly climbing out of the bed and attempting to stretch. Her bones and joints were not too happy still, they cracked and popped loudly but she sighed in contentment.

"I think...I'll go back to my own room and shower, I've bothered you enough"

Hissing through his teeth feeling her fangs scrape against his skin as she pulled away and the wounds on his wrist immediately healed.

"....Your quite welcome Kiara" he attempted a smile

Max swung his legs around to the edge of the bed and stood straightening himself out, running his hand through his tousled hair.

"Kiara. Everything that you do concerns me....It shouldn't, but it does...If you would like I can leave you alone....I have some preparations to make when we land" he suggested.

She smiled gently, wrapping her arms around her chest.

"I don't want to impose anymore... I've caused enough trouble. Besides...." she shrugged, but her smile seemed to turn sad "We'll be parting ways soon anyways right? no need to over complicate things"

Max simply nodded even though he did not want to hear those words that they would soon be leaving each other. Kiara would go on and do her thing and Max would travel around for a while before returning to his homeland.

"Perhaps your right. Complications can confuse things, blur lines.....I should go....Leave you alone" he plastered on a fake smile.

Turning from her he headed towards the cabin door, opening it he hesitated before craning his head back round to her.

"For the record....I am sorry for what William and your king did to you....But I wish that we had met under different circumstances" he smiled again.

Turning from her he exited the cabin.

She shrugged "Don't be sorry....It's mostly my fault. I doubt I attract anything but men itching to hurt me" she said with a chuckle before making her way out of his room and to her bedroom. She went into the bathroom, planning for a nice shower and a change of clothes.

It was odd that now at the last minute of things she didn't mind spending time with Max but she also knew she was too broken to be with anyone, even in the same room. She had no idea why she was shifting, why she needed vampire blood and she needed to figure herself out before she could even focus on someone else in any manner.
